Corrugated Metal Gasket

Low seating load · Reliable sealing

Product Information

Corrugated Metal Gasket

Corrugated or serrated composite gaskets combine a metal core with flexible sealing material. Concentric grooves are machined on both faces, with offset peaks forming a labyrinth sealing effect. Flexible graphite or PTFE facings improve sealing.

Key Features

The source reports a leakage rate as low as 4.48 × 10⁻⁶ mL/s, temperature service from -200°C to +700°C and pressure up to 26 MPa.

Compressibility is listed as 23.6%–29.42% and recovery as 20.48%–22.24%, with stable sealing during changing conditions and potential reuse.

Installation causes limited flange damage, requires less preload than solid flat gaskets and reduces failure from plastic deformation.

Types and Standards

Basic type: For conventional flange sealing.

Centering-ring or locating-tab type: Reduces misalignment and improves stability for large gaskets.

Chinese standards cited: GB/T 19066.1-2020 for PN series and GB/T 19066.2-2020 for Class series.

International standards cited: ASME B16.5 and BS EN 1092.

Selection

Match the construction to raised-face, male-and-female or grooved flange faces.

Flexible graphite facing: The source describes oxidation resistance and suitability for hot steam and oil.

PTFE facing: For strong acids, corrosive chemicals and clean service.

The source gives tooth-crest widths of 0.65–0.85 mm and groove depths of 0.2–0.3 mm, optimized using finite-element analysis for uniform stress.

Applications

Petrochemical reforming units and hydrocracking reactors.

Power and nuclear systems: High-temperature, high-pressure piping and heat-exchanger covers.

Demanding environments: Nuclear radiation zones and cryogenic equipment.
