Product Information
Carbon Fiber Packing
Carbon fiber packing is braided from high-quality carbon fibers. Usually black, dense and flexible, it provides heat resistance and chemical stability for industrial sealing.
Key Features
The source describes heat resistance up to 300°C, grade-dependent ranges of -200°C to +350°C and some high-carbon grades suitable at 600°C.
Pressure resistance is listed up to 30 MPa.
Chemical stability is listed across pH 1–14, including acids, alkalis and organic solvents.
Graphite or PTFE impregnation provides lubrication, reduces shaft wear and extends service life.
Applications
Dynamic and static seals on pumps, valves, reactors and flanges in chemical processing, petroleum, metallurgy and power generation.
Particularly suited to demanding temperatures, pressures, speeds and fluids containing solid particles.
Sizes and Operating Examples
Typical cross-sections: 3 × 3 mm to 50 × 50 mm, with custom sizes available.
Rotary pumps: 30 bar and surface speed up to 30 m/s.
Reciprocating pumps: 100 bar.
Valves: 200 bar.
Comparison
Compared with pre-oxidized fiber packing, carbon fiber packing offers higher performance; pre-oxidized fiber packing costs less for less demanding service.
Aramid/carbon hybrid packing offers greater abrasive-media wear resistance, while carbon fiber packing has advantages in heat resistance and chemical stability.
The source presents carbon fiber packing as an asbestos alternative.
